Trip Recap Part 4
We were able to take a shopping trip with Joel and Vincent in the town of Kisii (about 40 min from orphanage). They wanted to purchase new school shoes for the children. We also shopped for undergarments for all the girls at the orphanage. We were able to shop for soapstone to bring home! Kisii is known for its African soapstone, one of the softest known minerals, making it easy to carve. It naturally comes in colors ranging from white and pink to black.
A very big thank you to many of you who contributed to Addison’s special project to raise money for feminine care products. She was able to find out what the preferred products were, and purchase a large number of packages of pads to store for future use. She also had leftover donations that will be put into a fund to send for subsequent purchases as needed. The girls were very grateful to receive these!
We greatly enjoyed worshipping Sunday morning in the new church building! It was so spacious, open, bright and airy. We participated in many of their traditional Kenyan worship dance moves, even performing on the stage when they requested.
Ben led communion and Drew gave a wonderful sermon that he had prepared on eternal perspective. He would say a sentence at a time which Joel would then translate.
After the church service, we were able to help serve a special meal, which we had monetarily provided in advance. There were over 700 people in attendance! It took quite a while to get everyone through the line.
